Bob Russell | President

Former player for the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leaf in the NHL, Bob Russell serves as the President of the South Muskoka Shield. Bob has served as an NHL Scout with the New York Rangers, and owned Junior A teams in the BCHL, OJHL and GMHL. He also serves as the President of the Greater Metro Junior ‘A’ Hockey League.

Alex Magi | General Manager

Alex brings a wealth of connections to the Shield organization with a specialization in athlete recruitment. Since 2015, Magi has been building teams at the Junior A level, building a network of athletes world-wide. He is a graduate of the Sports Management Worldwide program and is a Manager at the EliteProspects Showcase Camp

David Forde | Senior Advisor

David has 10+ years at the Junior A level as an Executive Member, General Manager, Owner and Official. Forde was responsible for the 2018 Russell Cup Championship with the Almaguin Spartans and brings a wealth of knowledge to the Shield. Forde takes great pride on strong community involvement and generous charitable contributions to local organizations.

Sean Werth | Director of Hockey Operations

Sean is considered one of the most successful Managers within the GMHL. He has recruited some of the league’s most elite talent and has the resources to advance our athletes to OHL, QMJHL, NAHL, NCAA and USPORT leagues. Werth is responsible for building the powerhouse Bradford Rattlers program and will now be bringing his wealth of hockey knowledge to the Shield.

Coaching Staff

Frank Demasi | Head Coach

The Toronto native enters his 8th season with the Shield. Frank was the Head Coach  for the team from (2014-2021) amassing a coaching record of 111 – 45 – 12. Coach Demasi is a two-time winner of the GMHL's Coach of the Year award, and longest tenure Coach in the league.

Prior to his coaching days, Frank's professional hockey resume spanned 8 seasons in Europe. In 8 seasons of Professional hockey Frank won 6 Championships, and 3 league scoring titles, to go along with 2 Team MVP awards.  Before joining the Professional ranks, Frank attended Lake Forest College in Illinois where he played 4 seasons of hockey in the NCAA.  Frank’s experience, relationships, and contacts in college hockey in the USA and  with Professional teams in Europe play a huge part in giving our club an edge over others in the league to advancing players to these levels.

Frank, his wife Megan and their children Arthur, Joe, & Sophie make Muskoka their home.

Roy French | Assistant Coach

Local to Gravenhurst, Roy French joins the Shield organization behind the bench for the upcoming season. French is a well respected local with deep ties to the South Muskoka community. He has spent three seasons Coaching at the junior level and continues to guide young athletes in their careers with the Shield.
