The South Muskoka Shield took time away from the ice to pay tribute to fallen veterans at the Gravenhurst Remembrance Day ceremony on Nov. 11.

Players joined with members of the public for the ceremony, held at the legion branch that afternoon.

Club President Troy Kahler and VP Erika Rendon-Kahler placed a wreath at the legion cenotaph on behalf of the South Muskoka Shield.

Back on the ice, the Shield defeated rivals Almaguin Spartans on Nov. 14 by a 6-3 score.  Rasmus Asp led the way with a hat trick.

The next game for the Shield is Nov. 20, when they host the West Nipissing Lynx.

It's important for our boys to be here today supporting the community and learning about our history. Many of the players are from overseas, so it was also about a history lesson in understanding that our fallen soldiers are reason why we have our tremendous freedoms like playing ice hockey in Canada today. I am appreciative that we were able to take part today.
